Polyamides

Grivory GV

Grivory® GV is the brand name of a group of engineering plastics manufactured and marketed by EMS-GRIVORY. The materials in this group are based on semi-crystalline polyamides with some partially aromatic content. Grivory GV is available in granular form for processing by injection moulding in generally available machines and moulds. The grades of material within this group are differentiated by the type and composition of the base polymers and their modification with reinforcing materials (glass fibers, minerals), stabilizers and processing aids. Grivory GV is used for the manufacture of technical components which are characterized by:

  • High stiffness and strength
  • Property values which are little influenced by the absorption of moisture
  • High dimensional stability and low warpage
  • Good resistance to chemicals, typical of polyamides
  • Good surface quality
  • Efficient, cost effective manufacturing

This strong profile of properties ensures that Grivory GV is ideally suited for the replacement of metal. The important parameters for metal replacement, such as stiffness and strength, are largely unaffected by the absorption of moisture. Grivory GV is physiologically safe and can be used in sensitive applications involving direct contact with foodstuffs and drinking water.

Grivory HT

Grivory is the trade name for EMS-GRIVORY’s family of semi-crystalline, partially aromatic polyamides. Grivory HT comprises of aromatic, semi-crystalline, high-performance products based on Polyphthalamide (PPA) structure. Properties include:

  • Excellent stiffness and strength at high operating temperatures
  • Good resistance to chemicals and hot water
  • Low absorption of moisture or water
  • Low moisture effects on mechanical-physical properties
  • Good dimensional stability and low warpage
  • Good surface quality
  • Economical manufacturing

EMS-GRIVORY has designed the Grivory HT families with a high-performance profile. The main distinguishing feature of Grivory HT compared to other polyamides is its good performance at high temperatures. This makes it possible to produce injection moulded parts economically with excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance and chemical resistance. Grivory HT is an ideal construction material as a metal replacement and offers excellent opportunities for cost, and weight reduction and energy savings. Grivory HT outperforms polyphenylene sulphone (PPS) and Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) in terms of stiffness and strength at application temperatures up to 140°C.

Grilamid TR

Grilamid TR is the trade name for EMS-GRIVORY’s family of amorphous polyamides based on cycloaliphatic and aromatic blocks. Careful selection of the monomers results in stellar transparency threaded in the family’s DNA. Grilamid TR product line combines optical clarity with high-performance attributes:

  • Brilliant transparency
  • Excellent fatigue resistance
  • Superior dynamic strength
  • High chemical resistance
  • Extraordinary environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR)
  • Low specific gravity
  • Minimal water absorption
  • Long-term thermal stability
  • Barrier resistance to O2, N2, and CO2
  • High impact strength at low temperatures
  • Exceptional dimensional stability
  • Outstanding resistance to weathering

Grilamid TR’s robust properties succeed where other transparent polymers fail in achieving stringent requirements in optics, electronics, healthcare, safety, sanitary, household, sports, and automotive markets. Grilamid TR is a suitable fit in glass replacement applications. Reinforced Grilamid TR offers lightweight metal replacement options exhibiting high stiffness, high strength, low warpage, very low creep, high heat distortion temperatures, very low moisture absorption, and excellent surface appearance. Grilamid TR family’s outstanding processability, versatility in production methods, vibrant colorization, and bold printability fosters creative design freedom.

Grilamid L

EMS-GRIVORY sells its polyamide 12 products under the brand name Grilamid®. This engineering plastic has proved its worth for more than 30 years in various demanding applications. Grilamid is formed by polycondensation of laurolactam, a monomeric raw material based on crude oil. Grilamid combines exceptional properties such as:

  • High impact strength
  • Good weathering resistance
  • Good resistance to chemicals
  • Excellent abrasion and surface slip characteristics
  • Minimum water uptake and good dimensional stability
  • Low specific density
  • Excellent impact strength at low temperatures
  • Good barrier properties

Grilamid is the polyamide with the lowest water absorption and the lightest polyamide commercially available. Grilamid is particularly well suited for processing using injection-moulding, extrusion and blow-moulding processes. Typical application areas for Grilamid are the fields of automotive, electric and electronic, packaging, leisure, sport and mechanical engineering. The high-quality basic properties of Grilamid are determined by the chemical structure of polyamide 12. Through the addition of additives, fillers, fibres and processing aids, EMS-GRIVORY can also satisfy special market requirements. These include, for example, highly filled, high-performance grades for the manufacture of polymer bonded magnets. Making use of polymer alloys and selected chemical modifications we have been able further to improve the excellent properties of this material
